ASSOCIATION OF MICROBIOLOGISTS OF MACEDONIA

The Association of Microbiologists of Macedonia was established more than 30 years ago, in 1986, and since then it has become one of the most active medical, specialist associations functioning as part of the Macedonian Medical Association.

The Association of Microbiologists of Macedonia counts 85 doctors, specialists and medical microbiology specialists and 6 members, biologists-specialists in medical microbiology. 24 microbiologists (non-medical microbiology) are led as associate members, mostly from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Alkaloid, etc.

The work of ZMM is aimed at realizing the following activities: organizing professional and scientific meetings - 3-4 meetings per year, organizing symposia together with other associations and symposia under the auspices of the WHO and/or ECDC, reporting on the Association's activities through announcements and articles in medical journals (mostly Lekarski Vesnik), as well as activities related to membership in other associations (FEMS, ESCMID, UEMS, FESCI, etc.)

In addition to numerous expert meetings, symposia and workshops, the six Congresses of Macedonian microbiologists with international participation (1997, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2014 and 2018), two symposia supported by FEMS (Federation of European Microbiological Societies) are noteworthy. held in 2002 and 2018, as well as the Balkan Congress of Microbiologists (Microbiologia Balkanica) held in 2009.

These activities of ZMM allow constant monitoring of the latest achievements presented by well-known experts from various fields of medical microbiology, as well as the novelties in applied and sanitary microbiology. The monitoring of antimicrobial resistance, which is a global problem, is of particular interest to ZMM.

ASSOCIATION OF EPIDEMIOLOGISTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

The Association of Epidemiologists of the Republic of Macedonia was established more than 30 years ago. The association is part of the Macedonian Medical Association along with other specialist associations in the country and has been active in its work from its formation to the present day.

This Association includes 58 medical doctors - epidemiologists or on epidemiology residency and medical doctors employed in epidemiological units. Among them are professors, associate professors, teaching assistants at the Medical faculties in the country, within the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, the Goce Delchev University in Shtip, the State University in Tetovo, the Higher Medical School within the University of St. Kliment Ohridski in Bitola, epidemiologists working in the Ministry of Health, the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate and the Food and Veterinary Agency, in the Centers for Public Health and their regional units in the republic and in the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of North Macedonia.

There are 4 associate members - one veterinary doctor on epidemiology residency, 2 health workers with Higher Medical School degree (specialists for microbiological analyses) and a social worker, employed at the Institute of Public Health where they make their contribution to the development of the field of epidemiology.

The Association of Epidemiologists of the Republic of Macedonia unites, stimulates and coordinates the activity of its members to achieve common goals and tasks.

For this purpose, the Association maintains regular contact with its membership, and at least twice a year, professional meetings are organized to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and present updates and current events related to communicable diseases, public health threats and immunization, aiming to advance the field of epidemiology in the context of new challenges.

At the meetings of the Association, topics and papers are often presented, resulting from the routine work of epidemiologists and topics of international interest, knowledge, and experiences from various types of education and training related to the participation of our experts in international schools and trainings in the field of epidemiology, communicable diseases, and other public health threats apart biological ones.

Meetings are often organized in collaboration or with the participation of experts from various associations or institutions from our country and neighboring and other European countries (Institute of Public Health „Milan Jovanovic Batut” from Serbia, Institute of Public Health of Montenegro, SECID Albania, RKI from Germany) and from international organizations and reference institutions in the field such as WHO, ECDC, CDC, etc., which are available for professional and technical assistance.

At the regular meetings, solutions are sought for problems faced by the epidemiologists, and which are essential for their work, usually in communication with the Ministry of Health. The association cooperates with the relevant Ministry, bodies and institutions in terms of planning the workforce, specializations and post-graduate studies in its field.

The Association has been a member of the European Association of Epidemiologists since 1996.

In addition to professional meetings, joint events such as congresses, symposia, seminars, and workshops are organized for the members of the Association towards planned professional development. Such larger-scale events (congresses, symposia) are usually organized with other related associations, mostly in the field of prevention, but other specialist medical branches are not excluded.
